Virgin Atlantic Airbus flight VS-25 from London Heathrow to New York JFK with 252 passengers and 15 crew was enroute about 170nm north northwest of Shannon (Ireland) when the crew declared PAN PAN PAN reporting a medical issue with one of the pilots following a laser strike just after the takeoff from Heathrow.
The attached audio file contains a number of communications between the aircraft and Shannon controllers.
Have a listen to these communications and note how the emergency was conducted. Laser strikes are becoming rather prevalent for some unknown reason and it is only a matter of time that a more serious incident will occur. Have you ever encountered a laser strike in your professional duties? If so, what follow-up action did you take? Discuss.
